Hey there! I’m part of the team that supplies components for Deepal EVs. One of the super cool features in these electric vehicles is the climate control system. And today, I’m gonna break down how it actually works. Deepal EV

First off, let’s talk about why a top – notch climate control system is so important in an EV. Unlike traditional cars with combustion engines that generate a decent amount of waste heat which can be used to warm up the cabin, EVs rely on battery power for everything, including heating and cooling. So, an efficient climate control system not only keeps the passengers comfortable but also helps to preserve the battery’s range.
Basics of the System
The Deepal EV’s climate control system is a complex setup, but at its core, it’s all about regulating the temperature, humidity, and air quality inside the vehicle. It’s made up of several key components that work in harmony to achieve this.
The compressor is like the heart of the cooling side of the system. When you set your desired temperature to a cool setting, the compressor kicks in. It takes in low – pressure refrigerant gas from the evaporator, compresses it into a high – pressure, high – temperature gas, and then sends it to the condenser.
The condenser is located at the front of the car, usually near the radiator. Its job is to cool down the high – pressure refrigerant gas. As the hot gas passes through the condenser, it releases heat to the outside air. This causes the refrigerant to condense into a high – pressure liquid.
Next up is the expansion valve. This little guy is crucial as it regulates the flow of the high – pressure liquid refrigerant into the evaporator. When the refrigerant passes through the expansion valve, it suddenly expands, which causes it to turn into a low – pressure, cold mist.
The evaporator is where the magic of cooling the cabin happens. The cold refrigerant mist in the evaporator absorbs heat from the air blown over it by the blower motor. As the air loses heat, it gets cooled down and is then sent into the cabin through the vents.
Heating Function
For heating, Deepal EVs don’t have the luxury of using engine waste heat. Instead, they use a Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC) heater in some models. These heaters work by passing an electric current through a ceramic element. As the current flows, the ceramic element heats up due to its resistance, and this heat is then transferred to the air passing over it. Some newer Deepal EVs also use a heat pump for heating. A heat pump is more energy – efficient compared to a PTC heater. It can transfer heat from the outside air (even when it’s cold) into the cabin. The basic principle of a heat pump is similar to that of a refrigerator but in reverse. It extracts heat from the outside environment, compresses the refrigerant to increase its temperature further, and then transfers this heat to the cabin air.
Air Quality and Regulation
Deepal EVs also pay a lot of attention to air quality. The climate control system comes with an air filter. This filter traps dust, pollen, and other particulate matter from the outside air before it enters the cabin. Some models even have an advanced air purification system that can remove harmful gases like volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and odors.
The system also has sensors that constantly monitor the temperature, humidity, and air quality inside the cabin. Based on the data from these sensors, the climate control system automatically adjusts the settings to maintain the desired conditions. For example, if the humidity inside the cabin is too high, the system might increase the cooling slightly to condense the moisture out of the air.
Energy Management
Since energy consumption is a big deal in EVs, the Deepal’s climate control system is designed with energy management in mind. It uses algorithms to optimize the operation of the various components. For instance, if the outside temperature is only slightly different from the desired cabin temperature, the system might use a more energy – efficient mode, like using a lower fan speed or reducing the power consumption of the compressor.
Moreover, the system can also be pre – conditioned. You can use the Deepal app on your smartphone to turn on the climate control system before you get into the car. This way, the cabin is already at the right temperature when you enter, and it can be done while the car is still plugged in, so it doesn’t drain the battery while driving.
Integration with the Vehicle’s Systems
The climate control system in Deepal EVs is integrated with other vehicle systems. For example, it works in tandem with the battery management system. The battery needs to be kept within a certain temperature range for optimal performance and longevity. So, the climate control system can also be used to cool or heat the battery as needed.
It’s also connected to the vehicle’s infotainment system. You can control the climate settings directly from the touchscreen display in the car. This makes it easy and intuitive for the driver and passengers to adjust the temperature, fan speed, and other settings without having to fumble around with physical buttons.
